Four jobs before spring
Written down so that the winter does not quietly pass without them.
- Rudder bearing
- Play is well past what I would accept. New bush, and a proper look at the shaft while it is out.
- Seacocks
- Both worked in August and one is stiff now. Strip, grease, and replace the hose clips while access is easy.
- Deck fittings
- Rebed the two that wept all season. Old sealant off completely; half a job here is worse than none.
- Antifoul
- Wash off early while it is still soft, then leave it alone until March. Painting in January is how you waste a tin.
The tools are nothing special: a decent socket set, two clamps, a heat gun and more sandpaper than seems reasonable. The only thing worth spending money on is light. I put a second lamp over the bench last winter and finished twice as much work.
